Public meetings to be held on floodwall project for WVa city

MILTON, W.Va. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting two public information meetings on a floodwall planned for Milton, West Virginia.
The Herald-Dispatch reports the first meeting will be Thursday at Milton City Hall. The second will be held there next week. The programs and projects management chief for the Corp’s Huntington district, Michael Keathley, has said about 135 tracts of real estate will be required for the 8,000-foot floodwall along the Mud River.
The floodwall is estimated to cost about $143 million, about $90 million of which will be provided by the Corps. The state Legislature has set aside $8 million of surplus state revenue to go toward the project, which is expected to be completed in about five years. Floodwall maintenance would fall to the city.
