Sheridan’s Season Ends as Generals Fall To Pioneers

PLAIN CITY, Ohio- The Sheridan Generals came into Pioneer territory against Jonathan Alder on Friday, and yes it was playoff time so you guessed it; it was a cold one. Big plays became even bigger in the second half as the Pioneers took off for the victory, 35-13.
The Generals went into the locker room up 13-7, but the momentum was in the hands of the Pioneers. With under 2:30 left, they marched down the field and ended the drive with a touchdown from a JT Keith draw with 40 seconds left in the half. Although he didn’t have any scores on the night, Jackson Izzard was key for that drive and most of the game, as he brought in eight receptions for 110 yards.
As previously mentioned, it was a cold one tonight and it showed. Both offenses had to switch their original game plans from the run to pass when nothing was working on the ground. There were a lot of dropped balls and good coverage on both sides, but the big plays were made when they were needed by the Pioneers.
The Pioneers had 396 total yards of offense, and they held the Generals to 226 yards. The Pioneers offense simply found their rhythm on offense, being lead by the connection of Keith and Jacob Fenik in the end zone for two scores, and Garret Proxmire put the nail in the coffin for Jonathan Alder with a 49 yard run with 1:38 left in the game.
The Generals were forced to punt five times, as well. Turnovers plagued the Generals offense, three in total with two fumbles and one interception. Although the fumbles didn’t lead to any scores, it put the electricity that the Pioneers needed back into the stadium. Will Heisler capped off what was an impressive performance by this Jonathan Alder defense with an interception to the house with 59 seconds left to wrap this one up at 35-13 in favor of the Pioneers.
All in all, Friday was not the way the Sheridan Generals wanted to end their season, but coming in against an undefeated Johnathan Alder team and taking them into half with a lead is something to note for next year. They will be returning key players next season for their senior campaign, and the Generals look to be back in the trenches next year, with an even more experienced roster.
