Grand Jury Indicts Nelsonville Deputy Auditor for Alleged Payroll Fabrication

Although none of the allegations involve their schools, WOUB News has a learned Stephanie Wilson was asked to resign her position from the Federal Hocking Local School District Board.
The statement from the board reads,
“The Federal Hocking School Board has been made aware of the allegations against newly elected Board Member Stephanie Wilson. None of the allegations involve Federal Hocking Local Schools. As a Board Member Ms. Wilson does not have any involvement in day-to-day management of school or fiscal operations. At this time the remaining Board members strongly encourage Ms. Wilson to resign her position on the Board.”
Wilson had just began her term in January but resigned effective February 10. The board has 30 days to find a replacement.

NELSONVILLE, Ohio – The Athens County Grand Jury has indicted a Stewart woman on charges related to her work as a deputy auditor in Nelsonville.
Stephanie Lynn Wilson, 46, was indicted Monday for alleged tampering with evidence, forgery and telecommunications fraud. All charges are considered felonies.
“The case was reported to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office by newly elected Auditor of the City of Nelsonville, Taylor Sappington, after he found irregularities in the payroll and direct deposit reports,” Prosecutor Keller J. Blackburn wrote in a press release. “Wilson, who worked for the City of Nelsonville as a deputy auditor and was responsible for payroll since 2012, is accused of fabricating payroll records to have money electronically transferred to an account under her control.”
She is alleged to have transferred more than $40,000 to that account.
Prosecutor’s office investigators executed a search warrant on Wilson’s office in the City of Nelsonville on February 5.
According to the press release, the prosecutor’s office is asking the State Auditor’s Office to assist with the investigation, as needed.
Wilson, who is currently cooperating with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, will appear for arraignment at a later date.
