Spartans Charge on to Sectional Finals with Win Over Rock Hill
< < Back to spartans-charge-on-to-sectional-finals-with-win-over-rock-hillJACKSON, Ohio- Spartans rallied together in battle on Tuesday to move onto the Sectional Finals as the Alexander Spartans defeated the Rock Hill Redmen.
Both teams early on took some time to settle into the ballgame, as a one-point game in favor of the Spartans extended to a 25-19 Alexander lead going into halftime. Quickly they managed to get defense stops and quick buckets to give the Spartans some momentum heading into the second half.
The momentum going Alexander’s way in the first half was eliminated as the offensive groove halted. Rock Hill took advantage of this as they attempted to chip-away at the lead, but the Spartans were able to grind out a win late, 44-30.
The entire ballgame both teams struggled to find rhythm.
“[Alexander] felt fortunate to win the first quarter, and had more energy in the second,” Alexander head coach Jim Kearns said. “This game never felt comfortable.”
Alexander freshman Kyler D’Augustino shot 5-for-11 from the field to lead the Spartans in scoring with 16 points, and Caleb Terry also had a double-digit performance with 11.
The Spartans will move on to the Sectional Title game Friday.
“We’re going to get the players’ legs rested after a game we had to grind out,” Kearns said.
Alexander looks to reclaim their Sectional Title from the past two years, and will get an opportunity on Friday against South Point at Jackson High School, set to tip-off at 8:30 p.m.
