Belpre makes statement with first TVC Hocking victory
< < Back to belpre-makes-statement-first-tvc-hocking-victoryTonight, the Federal Hocking Lancers traveled to Belpre to take on the Golden Eagles in a TVC-Hocking clash. Belpre frustrated the Lancers all night long en route to their first conference win of the season, 69-45.
The Golden Eagles started off cold from the field, only making one field goal in the first six minutes of the game. Belpre Head Coach Jordan Thornhill called a timeout and had his players increase their defense pressure on the ballhandler. The pressure defense forced 13 first-half Lancer turnovers and helped spark a 21-4 run in the second quarter.
The Golden Eagles’ lead was only five at the half, 26-21. Another 8-0 spurt, including a three-pointer and a three-point play on consecutive possessions in the third stanza, put Federal Hocking in a 14-point deficit. The Lancers never recovered and Belpre cruised through the fourth period for a 24-point win.
Federal Hocking struggled to get into an offensive flow all evening, giving the ball away 25 times. They were carried by a double-double performance by senior Chris Saylor. Saylor also scored 15 points and snatched up 10 rebounds at center.
Even more impressive, Belpre had four players in double figures. Leading the way was junior guard Dakota Hoffman with 21 points. Fellow guard Drew Nestor scored 15, while forward Nick Theriault chipped in with 12.
With tonight’s loss, Federal Hocking drops to 2-2 (2-1) and will stay in the TVC-Hocking, taking on Trimble at home on December 20th. Belpre improves their record to 2-2 (1-1) as well and travels to Waterford on December 20th.
