‘A Bridge Too Far’: Coronavirus Catchphrase Taken From WWII Has Ohio U Ties

CINCINNATI (AP) — A British general’s pessimistic prediction about a World War II operation is showing up as a coronavirus-era catchphrase. U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci used the term “a bit of a bridge too far” in Senate testimony last week on reopening decisions.
Gov. Mike DeWine has explained his decision to reverse himself on requiring people to wear masks in public “a bridge too far.”
The phrase was popularized by the 1974 book “A Bridge Too Far” by Cornelius Ryan.
His letters, notes and audiotapes are now housed at Ohio University.
