ATHENS, OH – June 25, 2020 — On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at 6 PM, the Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) will host a virtual town hall to discuss the Athens Carbon Fee, a component of the SOPEC Electric Aggregation Program for the City of Athens. The virtual town hall will be hosted on Zoom, a web-based video conferencing platform that allows users to meet online, with or without video.

Residents living in the City of Athens, Ohio, are encouraged to participate in the “Athens Carbon Fee – Virtual Town Hall” webinar presentation to learn more about the new electric aggregation program rate that includes a one-of-a-kind carbon emissions fee that will be collected in a special fund specifically to install solar PV systems at public facilities in the City of Athens.

This fee-for-solar program is expected to generate more than $100,000 each year, starting July 2020, that can be leveraged to install high-impact solar systems to help save taxpayer money, to support the local solar economy, and to help the City of Athens reach its energy and emission-reduction goals outlined in the Athens Sustainability Action Plan.
