Nelsonville-York School Board Approves Phased Back-To-School Plan For Fall
< < Back to ?p=257283NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — Nelsonville-York School District board members approved a phased back-to-school plan at the board’s August meeting on Wednesday.
Superintendent Rick Edwards said the district worked with the Athens City-County Health Department and a public health specialist to navigate the process of returning to school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Edwards explained students will begin the year separated into cohorts by household; each cohort will attend school in-person two days a week beginning September 1.
“If everything goes well, we will transition into a four day a week in-person process which should last hopefully three weeks,” he said. “If everything goes well at the end of those three weeks, we will transition into a five day a week traditional calendar.”
Parents may also choose to have their children attend classes virtually all year. Those who wish to have their student or students participate online are asked to email online@nybucks.org.
“I think the board’s interest was to have an option for those folks who did want their children back in school face-to-face or in-person, but to leave the avenue open for those folks who were not quite comfortable sending their students back to have the online option,” Edwards said.
Students and staff will be required to wear face coverings in the school buildings, and asked to sign a pledge to follow district health guidelines.
