< < Back to ky-man-charged-grave-marker-theftsA northeastern Kentucky man is due in court Monday to face charges that he stole the markers from the graves of World War II veterans and attempted to sell them for scrap.
Grayson Police Detective Sgt. Travis Steele says 24-year-old Derrick K. Hale of Hitchins is charged with theft of four brass and bronze plaques from the graves of veterans buried in Hill Crest Burial Park behind the Kentucky Christian University campus.
Steele says the recycling center refused to buy the markers from Hale and made a copy of his identification card before contacting police. The plaques were recovered.
Hale is scheduled to appear in Carter District Court for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Monday.
