”Reminiscing in Bebop: Jazz Anecdotes by Jon Hendricks”
Jon Hendricks (b. Newark OH) was raised in Toledo where he began his singing career in the ’40s. Influenced by the early vocalise rendition of James Moody’s “Mood for Love,” credited to King Pleasure, and Eddie Jefferson, Jon would develop into one of the foremost proponents of vocalise, an idiom particular to Jazz.
Jon, along with Dave Lambert went on to create the seminal vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, which became one of the most profound exemplars of this song form.
“Out of the Afternoon” will present an archival interview with Jon Hendricks this Saturday afternoon July 31st Noon-3:00.

What’s that you say? Most radio is awful? Well, you’re not wrong – that’s been true for at least 40 years.
At Radio Free Athens, we think you can either curse the darkness, or light a candle.
Light a candle. Listen to Radio Free Athens.
