Four COVID-related deaths have been reported in Athens County, along with nine new cases for Oct. 19
< < Back to four-covid-related-deaths-have-been-reported-in-athens-county-along-with-nine-new-cases-for-oct-19ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 76 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after four were added to the total Tuesday. The county also has now had 7,704 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after nine new cases were reported for the same day.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the deaths and cases on Oct. 19, 2021.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the deaths involved two people in their 70s, a person in their 60s and a person 80 or older.
According to ODH data, the cases involved three people 20-29, two people 0-19, two people 40-49, a person 30-39 and a person 80+.
An additional case required hospitalization involving a person 80 years or older. According to the data, 268 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 441 known active cases in the county as of Tuesday and 7,187 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 47.89% of the county has started the vaccination process and 45.10% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 1,604 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,503,102 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 3,617 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. There have been 77,738 hospitalizations and 23,616 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
