Bloom-Carroll rush attack blossoms, defense stiffens to defeat Heath

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOUB) – Bloom-Carroll took on Heath in the regional semi-finals of the playoffs in the battle of the Bulldogs. Bloom-Carroll was looking to advance to the regional finals for the second year in a row, while this was Heath’s first neutral site game since the 2009-2010 season.

After punts from both teams on their opening drives Bloom-Carroll found themselves seven yards away from the end zone and K.J. Benedict handed the ball off to Dylan Armentrout for the first score of the game. Bloom-Carroll lead 7-0.

Bloom-Carroll then jumped on a fumble after a muffed punt by Heath and they capitalized on the great field position at Heaths 29-yard line. Chase Plantz was the one to cap off the drive rushing for a one-yard touchdown and stretching the lead to two scores, 14-0 Carroll.

Plantz would find the end zone again a few drives later from eight yards away, and without any response from the Heath offense, Bloom-Carroll found themselves with a comfortable 21-0 lead.

Heath could not get anything going on offense in the first half as the Bloom-Carroll defense was flying all around the field making plays in the open field, rally tackling, and the secondary shut down then passing game early on.

The Bloom-Carroll bulldogs proved to be the top dogs in this matchup cruising to a 35-6 victory over Heath. The Bloom Carroll offense more than doubled Heaths total offensive yards in this game having 450, while Heath only had 220.

For Bloom-Carroll, Benedict was near perfect in the air going 15-18 on pass attempts for 157 yards and 1 touchdown. Chase Plantz was also a huge factor in this game with 15 carries for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns. He wasn’t the only running back for Carroll that played well either, Armentrout also had 15 carries for 124 yards and 1 touchdown on the night.

Bloom-Carroll advances to the regional finals to play the red-hot St. Clairsville Red Devils who are currently on a 12-game win streak. This matchup will be Bloom-Carroll’s biggest challenge yet this season as the Red Devils are averaging 42 points a game in the playoffs, while Carroll is averaging 38 points per game through three playoff games so far.
