The 96th death has been reported in Athens County, along with 18 new cases for Nov. 25 & 26

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 96 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Friday. The county also has now had 8,241 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 18 new cases were added for Thursday and Friday.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the death and cases on Nov. 26, 2021.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person aged 80 or older.
According to ODH data, the cases involved six people 0-19, five people 30-39, three people 20-29, three people 60-69 and one person 80+.
There are 227 known active cases in the county as of Friday and 7,918 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 50.50% of the county has started the vaccination process and 46.46% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 7,992 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
