31 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for Dec. 16
< < Back to 31-new-covid-19-cases-were-reported-in-athens-county-for-dec-16ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 8,644 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 31 new cases were reported for Thursday.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed numbers on Dec. 16, 2021.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 10 people 20-29, eight people 0-19, three people 30-39, three people 40-49, three people 70-79, two people 60-69, one person 50-59, and one person 80+.
An additional case required hospitalization involving a person in their 60s. According to the data, 308 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 366 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 8,179 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 51.46% of the county has started the vaccination process and 48.09% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 11,691 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,819,342 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 11,803 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. This is a significant increase in the number of cases since Monday, and as noted in the graphic below it is the result of a laboratory reporting delay. Because of this delay, about 840 cases from testing dating back to March are included in Thursday’s numbers.
There have been 91,800 hospitalizations since the start of the pandemic.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
