Two COVID-related deaths have been reported in Athens County, along with 24 new cases for Dec. 21
< < Back to two-covid-related-deaths-have-been-reported-in-athens-county-along-with-24-new-cases-for-dec-21ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 102 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after two were added to the total Tuesday. The county also has now had 8,750 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 24 new cases were added the same day.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the deaths and cases on Dec. 21, 2021.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the deaths involved a person in their 60s and a person 80 or older.
According to ODH data, the cases involved seven people 50-59, five people 0-19, three people 30-39, three people 40-49, three people 60-69, two people 20-29 and one person 70-79.
Two previously reported cases required hospitalization for a person 40s and a person in their 60s. According to the data, 315 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 395 known active cases in the county as of Tuesday and 8,253 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 51.64% of the county has started the vaccination process and 48.25% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 12,602 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,867,723 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 12,502 cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
There have been 93,302 hospitalizations and 28,277 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
