Buckeyes Took Athens to the Pound in Dominant Fashion
< < Back to buckeyes-took-athens-to-the-pound-in-dominant-fashionNELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Athens Bulldogs (3-8) looked to avenge their loss to the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (8-5) from earlier in the year.
In the first quarter it was all Mackenzie Hurd as she scored all 14 of the Buckeyes points as they left the quarter up 14-11.
In the second quarter both teams defensively were excellent as points were hard to come by for both teams. The Buckeyes scored 8 points, the Bulldogs scored 5 points.
Mackenzie Hurd’s scoring in the first half was very great; she left the half with 19 of Nelsonville-York’s 22 points.
In the third period Ariah Lavy started to heat up, but with that Asa Holcombe also was heating up as the score after the third was 35-32.
After a closely contested third quarter the Buckeyes came out in full force they got off quickly as they opened the quarter on a 17-0 run, Nelsonville-York didn’t allow an Athens point until there was a little over three minutes left in the game. The Buckeyes after firing on all cylinders in the fourth went on to win 57-39.
The Bulldogs (3-9) hope to end their three game losing streak Saturday against the South Gallia Rebels. As for the Buckeyes (9-5) they will hit the roads to play the Meigs Marauders Saturday.
