One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 14 new cases for March 8
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 131 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Tuesday. The county also has now had 14,366 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 14 new cases were added and a previously confirmed case was removed the same day.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on March 8, 2022.
Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person in their 40s.
According to ODH data, the cases involved five people 0-19, two people 50-59, two people 60-69, two people 80+, one person 20-29, one person 30-39 and one person 70-79. One previously confirmed case in the 40-49 age range was removed from the data.
There are 274 known active cases in the county as of Tuesday and 13,961 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 53.18% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.64% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 17,057 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 799 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported in the last 24 hours. There were also 84 hospitalizations, 8 ICU admissions and 194 deaths reported in the same time period.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
