Employing nearly 3 million young men, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) played a critical role in FDR’s strategy to conserve natural resources and raised public awareness of the outdoors and the importance of natural resource preservation. Across the nation, the CCC planted nearly 3 billion trees, built campgrounds and roads, preserved historic sites, and fought tree-killing insects. The CCC’s impact on conservation was considered by historians as the most successful of the New Deal programs.
