The holiday season is finally here and WOUB-TV is celebrating with oodles of programming lined up Nov. 24 through Dec. 7 for our Holiday Showcase! THURSDAY, NOV. 24:

9 p.m. “Carpenters: Close to You & Christmas Memories (My Music)”


This music-filled documentary traces the Carpenters’ career and features the duo’s top hits. Encore presentation scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 25:

9 p.m.  “Great Performances: Josh Groban’s Great Big Radio City Show”


The world-renowned baritone performs songs from many musical genres alongside guest stars.

11 p.m. “Great Age Reboot”

The energizing new special THE GREAT AGE REBOOT offers both hope and strategies for a bright future. 12:30 p.m. “Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom”


Go beyond the legend and meet the woman who repeatedly risked her own life and freedom to liberate others from slavery. One of the greatest freedom fighters in U.S. history, Tubman was an Underground Railroad conductor, a Civil War scout, and a spy. Encore presentation scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 9 p.m.

2 p.m. “Memory Rescue with Daniel Amen, M.D.”


Dr. Daniel Amen demonstrates ways to supercharge your memory and remember what matters most to you.

3:30 p.m. “Kenny Rogers Farewell Concert Celebration: All In for the Gambler”

This special brought together fans, friends and music icons to celebrate Kenny Rogers’ final farewell to Nashville. The program features performances by Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Wynonna, The Oak Ridge Boys and Kenny Rogers along with many other special guests. Encore presentation scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m.

5 p.m. “Suze Orman’s Ultimate Retirement Guide”


The personal finance expert provides essential advice on planning for and thriving in retirement. Encore presentation scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 at 9:30 p.m.

7 p.m. “Lawrence Welk’s Big Band Splash”

Lawrence Welk and his great orchestra, from the television show in the ’70s and early ’80s, plays the music of the Big Band Era and salutes legendary friends, including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and others.

9 p.m. – “Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald: 50th Anniversary at Radio City”

Two-time Grammy-winning country music superstar Reba McEntire shines in concert at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, singing selections from her debut gospel album “My Chains Are Gone.” Reba lends her unmistakable voice to classic hymns and songs of hope and is joined on stage by the Issacs, Trisha Yearwood and Kelly Clarkson. Hosted by Bill Gaither (Classic Gospel series). Encore presentation scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m.

2:30 p.m. “Rick Steves’ European Christmas”

Performers include Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, The Carpenters and many more. Encore presentation scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 12 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m.

6:30 p.m. “John Williams: The Berlin Concert”

Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and others celebrate the acclaimed filmmaker. Encore presentation scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. 

9:30 p.m. “Musicians’ Green Book: A Legacy of Harmony & Survival”


Explore the stories and music of Black artists who relied on an underground guide to navigate the injustices of racial segregation while on the road. Features performances and interviews with vocalists, musicians, activists, historians and others. Encore presentation scheduled for Saturday, December 3 at 3:30 p.m.

 

TUESDAY, NOV. 29:

8 p.m. “Your DNA Secrets Revealed”


Learn about the science of DNA and the role genetics plays in our longevity, health and well-being. Hosted by author, educator and genetic genealogist Diahan Southard, the program explains why genealogical science is critical to understanding who we really are. Encore presentation scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.

9:30 p.m. “Concert for George”


On November 29, 2002, one year after the passing of music legend George Harrison, a performance tribute was organized in his honor. Held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the momentous evening featured Harrison’s songs and music he loved, performed by a lineup that included Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Dhani Harrison and many more. Encore presentation scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 11 p.m.
