Ohio wins third in a row with 90-81 victory over Akron
< < Back to ohio-wins-third-in-a-row-in-90-81-victory-over-akronATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio continued its win streak and domination in the Convo as it defeated the Akron Zips 90-81 Friday night.
The Bobcats headed onto home court with a two-game winning streak. For Akron, it was trying to comeback after a loss to the Toledo Rockets.
The first half was a close affair from both teams as scoring was back and forth. By the end of the half, the Zips and the Bobcats had similar amounts in rebounds and assists. The Bobcats went into the locker room with a close lead, 44-40.
The second half became a totally different ball game as Ohio began a scoring trend on the court. Dwight Wilson and Jaylin Hunter were putting pressure non-stop as Akron failed to put shots at the same level.
The Zips tried to comeback in the closing minutes of the game, but two free throws by Devon Baker would close the door as the Bobcats get their third win in a row 90-81.
Jaylin Hunter led the Bobcats in scoring for the night with 25 points and going 50% from the field. Dwight Wilson also put up a performance having 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Xavier Castaneda had a monstrous performance for the Zips hitting 34 points and going 6 for 10 from the 3-point line.
“We did need to prove to ourselves coming into this game that we can beat one of those top four or five teams,” Jaylin said.
The Bobcats are back in action against the Buffalo Bulls on Tuesday. Head Coach Jeff Boals said that they will have to learn from their loss at the beginning of the season to not replicate the same result.
“They did a phenomenal job of crashing the boards,” Boals said. “Going into this game, boxing out is going to be huge and also taking care of the basketball.”
