ATHENS, OH – For many in our region, Sunday wouldn’t be Sunday without Bluegrass on WOUB. In order to celebrate the long-running WOUB Bluegrass program, D 28 + 5, and the new 24/7 D 28 + 5 livestream – WOUB will hold a one-day membership drive on Sunday, July 30.
“Bluegrass is the music of Appalachia. Through D 28 + 5, WOUB has been able to share that music with the people in our region,” said WOUB Director of Radio Rusty Smith. “But local music programs like this need the support of its listeners to continue and that’s why we are asking those who love the program to make a donation to WOUB on Sunday, July 30.”
A special Thank You gift is being offered for those who become a monthly sustaining member of WOUB at $5 a month or make a one-time donation of $60. WOUB will be offering a pair of tickets to a Bluegrass event in Columbus. Bluegrass at the Barn! will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 1 p.m at the barn and picnic grounds of the Linden Aerie Eagles 2252 (3800 Westerville Road, Columbus). The event will feature both nationally renowned and favorite Bluegrass bands.
The headlining act for this event will be IIIrd Tyme Out, a nationally renowned, award-winning Bluegrass Band featuring Russell Moore. Plus attendees will see Hillbilly Chic, a popular band from southern Ohio that plays an energetic and fun mix of Old Time, Bluegrass, and Country/Folk music, and Appalachian Swing, a local bluegrass group from Columbus.
Attendees can bring their chairs and blankets and relax on the lawn or grab a table under the shade of the picnic shelter by the barn and enjoy an afternoon of the best Bluegrass music around. Kids under 12 are admitted free with a ticket holder. Food and beverages are available onsite for purchase. No outside food or drink permitted. Parking is free.
