Last year the Green Devils beat the Buckeyes early in the tournament, so Nelsonville-York was coming for revenge.
The Buckeyes and the Green Devils traded points for the majority of the first set. Kyleigh Warren of Nelsonville-York went on a five-point service run to help create space for the Buckeyes. North Adams called their first timeout when Nelsonville went up 12-10.
Out of the timeout the Buckeyes let off the gas, and the teams continued to swap points. After some team errors from the Green Devils, the Buckeyes created a 22-16 lead. Nelsonville-York started to get a little too comfortable and North Adams came crawling back with a five-point run. Nelsonville-York called a timeout and found the fire to finish the match. Chloe Lehman got the set winning kill for the Buckeyes, 25-21.
Straight out of the break, Nelsonville-York went on an 8-0 run. Warren led the charge with four aces, and the Green Devils were forced to call a timeout. The Buckeyes continued to dominate in the second set with huge plays from Lyndsey Spencer keeping the defense alive. Macey Call produced points for the Buckeyes, leading the offense with five kills in the second set. Nelsonville York went on to take the set 25-15.
At the beginning of the third, North Adams came out with a new spark to them. It only stayed lit for so long, as Nelsonville-York put it out immediately. Kenzie VanBibber carried the Buckeyes to a 14-4 lead with a six-point serving run.
The Green Devils called a timeout but that didn’t stop VanBibber. She had another ace right out of the timeout, and there was just no stopping the Buckeyes in the third set. Nelsonville-York took the third and final set 25-10.
Nelsonville-York swept North Adams on a revenge tour to continue to the District Finals. The Buckeyes are set to play Chillicothe Southeastern on Saturday in Waverly at 2:30 p.m.
