Jackson manhandles Marietta 49-14 to advance to second round
< < Back to ?p=301239JACKSON, Oh (WOUB) The Jackson Ironmen (10-1) after a successful season hosted their first playoff game at Holzer Field on Friday, entering as the 4th seed in the playoffs, they would take on the 13th seeded Marietta Tigers (5-6) who were coming into Jackson after a close 28-24 win over Warren.
The Ironmen on this night wouldn’t disappoint as Jackson defeats Marietta to move on 49 -14.
Jackson was playing steady for the majority of the first half as the Ironmen started the night with a huge play by Cade Wolford that would lead to a 4-yard touchdown by Nolan Johnson out of the gate.
The Tiger’s defense was able to get some stops on defense in the first quarter but couldn’t capitalize to turn points on the scoreboard after key mistakes on offense.
These mistakes gave Jackson full momentum from the second quarter as their offense from Cade Wolford and Nolan Johnson lead the team to score 2 more touchdowns to end the half 21-7.
For the night, Nolan Johnson would end up with 138 and 3 touchdowns as the key contributor for the night. Cade Wolford was right behind with 119 yards and 2 touchdowns in the victory.
For the Tigers, running back Junior Smith ran for 160 yards and a touchdown in his last game for Marietta.
The next game for the Ironmen will be a huge one as for their last home game of the season, they will face the 5th seeded Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs (10-1) who dominated Athens 58-14. This game for both schools should be a very close one on paper.
Meanwhile, the Marietta Tigers will end the season in Jackson as the opportunities next season awaits as they graduate 12 seniors in their first season in the Twin-State League.
