Ironton fails to come back against Harvest Prep in Regional Semifinal
< < Back to ?p=301725ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Both the Ironton Fighting Tigers and the Harvest Prep Warriors have proved to be dominant forces in region 19 this season, and tonight they travelled to Athens to face off in the Regional Semifinal.
Harvest Prep started off the game with a 24-yard touchdown from Lennie Wicks to get on the board early. Ironton failed to respond in the first quarter, although they had some strong drives down the field.
Plenty of punts were seen on either side, and the first ended with a score of 6-0 with Harvest Prep in the lead.
The Warriors continued to control the game, picking up two more touchdowns in the second quarter and finding themselves up 20-0.
The Tigers proved to still have their fight, with a dominant run from junior Shaun Terry to put them on the board 20-6, and the beginning of a shift that would continue in the second half.
The third quarter proved to be all about defense. Both teams shut each other down, and eventually, Ironton fumbled in the red zone. However, on the next play, Shaun Terry stripped the runner, and brought the ball to the house to build on the momentum Ironton had gathered over the course of the second half, narrowing the gap to 20-14.
The Fighting Tigers fought for another touchdown to create a spectacular comeback story and made some big plays that proved their commitment to the game. Unfortunately for them, a Harvest Prep interception with 56 seconds left on the clock put the game to bed, and the Warriors maintain their lead of 20-14 and moving on to the next round.
Ironton’s season may be over, but Harvest Prep will move on to face off against Wheelersburg in the Regional Final next week.
