The Global Jazz Diaspora Pt. I: Four Iconoclasts

Saturday, July 13 Excursions examines international large improvising ensembles formed after the classic big band era and the leaders of these orchestras.

The music concepts of four pianist-composer-arrangers, from solo, small group, to big band recordings will be scrutinized. Featured will be South African pianists, Abdullah Ibrahim and Chris McGregor;
British composer band leader Keith Tippett; California Jazz icon, community music organizer and leader Horace Tapscott.

Four Iconoclasts is the initial program of the broader series The Global Jazz Diaspora. Subsequent broadcasts will survey various aspects of Jazz performance throughout the world.
