MILLERSPORT, Ohio (WOUB) – There is truly nothing better than Gridiron Glory’s game of the week to cap off a fantastic Friday night, as the Millersport Lakers took down the Federal Hocking Lancers, 30-20.

The Lancers took possession of the ball first. Their opening drive of the game would not pick up any steam and would result in a punt attempt. Federal Hocking tried to catch the Millersport special teams napping with a fake punt, but the Lakers denied the Lancers attempt.

Millersport would have their opening drive of the ballgame fall under the same fate as Federal Hocking’s, as they would fail to convert on fourth down and give the ball right back to the Lancers.

On the fourth play of the next Federal Hocking drive is where they would be able to find the endzone in a massive way. Quarterback Brody Rutter would drop back and fire a pass into double coverage and it was brought in by wide receiver Gabe Bray for a 95-yard passing touchdown to give the Lancers the lead. They would fail on the ensuing 2-PT attempt, 6-0 Federal Hocking.

The Lakers next drive would see them drive down the field and into the red zone, aided by a 38-yard rush from junior running back Brock Wright. This drive would stall, leading to a field goal attempt for Millersport.

The kick sailed wide right and well short of the posts, as the score remained in favor of Federal Hocking.

The ensuing Lancer drive would end abruptly, as Jason Wells had himself an easy interception in the secondary.

The name of the game is capitalizing when you get your chance, and the Lakers did just that, as Nick Yingling caught the reception from Jacob Eiginger, and punched it in for the score. Millersport would also convert on the 2-PT attempt, 8-6 in favor of the Lakers.

Federal Hocking would punch right back on their next drive. Rutter and the offense were able to drive down the field and get into the red zone, as he would find Elijah Scott over the middle for the score. Once again, the Lancer 2-PT attempt was unsuccessful, 12-6 Federal Hocking.

The half would end with the Lancers up by that score, 12-6. Millersport would turn this around in the second half, as they would find their rhythm on offense and take the game by a final of 30-20.
