Democratic candidate Wenda Sheard says her priorities for the 94th District of the Ohio House include expanding educational opportunities

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Wenda Sheard is hoping to be the first Democrat representing the 94th District in the Ohio House since 2014.
Republican Jay Edwards has held the seat for the last six years, but his term is up this year, leaving a vacant spot.
Sheard hopes to fill it.
“I want everyone to know that I don’t need this job. I feel compelled to offer myself up to serve the public,” Sheard said.
District 94 includes Meigs and Washington Counties and a portion of Athens County.
Sheard moved to Athens in 1979 after graduating from law school at Cleveland State University.
She spent 12 years teaching business law at Ohio University and has also taught students in the United Kingdom and China.
“I learned that people all over the world want the same things. They want their families provided for,” Sheard said. “They want food, clothing, shelter and health care. And that’s what I hope to improve for the citizens of our district.”
Sheard has many initiatives in her campaign including improving educational opportunities.
She also wants to lower fees on high electric bills, lower property taxes to benefit homeowners, and fix cell phone dead zones.
She said without universal cell service, people in the district are still lacking the resources to truly succeed.
“People are without what they need for children to do their homework and their parents to look for jobs,” Sheard said.
Sheard has spent time in a domestic relations court, which she said helps her see the problems faced by those in southeast Ohio — the problems she’s hoping to fix.
Among all of her focuses, Wenda Sheard said the citizens of District 94 will be at the center.
