River Valley Raiders Dominate Meigs Marauders in Conference Matchup
< < Back toPOMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) — The River Valley Raiders (10-4) overwhelmed the Meigs Marauders (0-10) on Monday, cruising to a 61-23 victory in a Tri-Valley Conference-Ohio showdown. The Raiders’ relentless full-court press and sharp offensive execution proved too much for the Marauders, who struggled with turnovers and missed opportunities throughout the game.
River Valley started strong, jumping out to a commanding 20-6 lead in the first quarter. The Raiders’ defense forced numerous turnovers, with shooting guard Kallie Burger leading the charge by recording three steals and converting them into points. Offensively, Laella Mullins nailed a three-pointer, while Burger and Carlee Manley combined for multiple baskets in transition. The Marauders, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm, managing just two field goals and committing four fouls in the opening period.
The second quarter saw River Valley extend their lead with an explosive offensive performance, outscoring Meigs 28-8. The Raiders capitalized on Meigs’ 15 first-half turnovers, converting them into fast-break points and second-chance opportunities. Guard Hayley Edwards knocked down a three-pointer and added a steal, while Kaylin Burger hit two consecutive shots from the field. For Meigs, Shelby Yost and Kyla Boyd provided some offense, but their efforts were overshadowed by missed shots and difficulties on the boards. At halftime, River Valley held a commanding 48-14 lead.
Despite showing more composure in the second half, the Marauders were unable to close the gap. In the third quarter, freshman Taylor Johnson hit a three-pointer for Meigs, but River Valley maintained control with efficient ball movement and contributions from their bench. Edwards and Burger added to their scoring totals for the Raiders, pushing the lead to 60-21 by the end of the third.
With the game firmly in hand, River Valley rested their starters in the fourth quarter. Both teams struggled to find offensive momentum, scoring just a combined three points in the final period. Meigs continued to battle but was held to just two points in the quarter, as River Valley sealed a dominant 61-23 victory. The Raiders’ aggressive defense and balanced scoring proved too much for the Marauders, who were hampered by turnovers and missed opportunities throughout the game.
River Valley improves to 10-4 on the season and will travel to Wellston on Wednesday night. Meigs, still searching for their first win, will look to bounce back on the road against Nelsonville-York on Thursday.
