MCARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) – The Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes traveled to McArthur on Monday night to take on Vinton County in the latest edition of the TVC-Ohio rivalry. The Vikings defended their home court, winning by a score of 68-43.

The game started in Nelsonville-York’s favor, as they took an early 12-6 lead that led to a Vinton County timeout. The Vikings made some adjustments, and pulled the game to a closer 14-11 score at the end of the first.

Straight out of the second quarter, Vinton County scored five unanswered points, due to an abundance of offensive rebounds. A few more minutes of Vinton County putting defensive pressure on the Lady Buckeyes allowed them to pull ahead even more. The Vikings’ two-point lead expanded to nine points. It was 29-20 with a couple minutes to go in the first half.

The end of the second quarter was riddled with turnovers from both teams, and the score hardly shifted. It was 31-20 at halftime, and the Lady Buckeyes clearly needed to make some adjustments to avoid things getting out of hand.

Some of NY’s best got into foul trouble, and this hurt the team’s chances to do so throughout the second half. Alayna Okulich and Madi Pidcock were both sitting at 4 in the third quarter, and this allowed Vinton County to take the 48-33 lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was much of the same, as Nelsonville-York could not handle the Vikings full court pressure and aggressiveness. Vinton County was able to finish strong, and won this game 68-43.

Unfortunately for the Lady Buckeyes, this meant four losses in a row, dropping them to a 3-8 record. On the other hand, it’s four wins in a row for Vinton County as they move to 10-4 on the season. NY looks to bounce back at home against the Meigs Marauders on Thursday night, while Vinton County hopes to keep their winning streak alive at Alexander on Thursday.
