HEMLOCK, Ohio (WOUB) – Grove City Christian and Miller came into this MSL-C conference game with 3-1 records. It was Grove City Christian who dominated on both sides of the ball and came out with a big victory, 62-20.
To start the game, Miller got off to a strong start as RB Zander Bice had a 65-yard touchdown run to put the Falcons up 6-0 early, followed by a failed 2-point conversion attempt. Grove City would respond right back on its first offensive drive as WR Giovanni Cotton caught a short touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 7-6.
At the beginning of the second quarter, it was Bice again who sneaked his way into the end zone on a 2-point conversion. That got the game tied at 14-14.
Grove City didn’t stop after that, as John Gibson caught a long touchdown reception to give the Eagles the lead back. Later in the second quarter, Grove City would score another touchdown as WR Ty Timlin scored a receiving touchdown, and the Eagles would take a 28-14 lead.
With the ball back, the Falcons had a good drive going, but their quarterback fumbled the snap, and Grove City would end up recovering the football. The Eagles took advantage of that by getting a short touchdown run by Giovanni Cotton to give them a big 35-14 lead. Grove City would remain up 35-14 at halftime.
Right away to start the second half, it’s Giovanni Cotton who dragged multiple defenders with him and then broke free on a long touchdown run to put the Eagles up 41-14. Then Miller would have another botched snap, and Bennett Cook of the Eagles would pick it up for another fumble recovery for Grove City Christian. The Eagles took advantage of that fumble recovery by getting a touchdown run from RB Josiah Harmeyer to give the Eagles a huge 48-14 lead.
Bice wouldn’t quit yet as he scored his third touchdown run of the game which was good enough to give him the all-time points record in Miller school history. Cotton wanted to keep his great night going as he had another long rushing touchdown to give Grove City 55 points in the game. The Eagles would score one more touchdown in this game and Grove City Christian ended up beating Miller by a final score of 62-20.
Both teams’ running backs were able to put on a show in this game but the Miller Falcons had a hard time keeping up with the Grove City Christian Eagles in this game. This was a huge conference win for the Eagles.
