Crooksville’s Offense Dominates over Coshocton

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Coshocton Redskins travelled to Crooksville on Friday night looked to gain their first win on the road. Coshocton and Crooksville came into this matchup with multiple consecutive losses, so either squad looked to pivot the momentum in their season.
Crooksville came out of the gate fired up, as a charge by Crooksville’s Brayson Hill brought the Ceramics to the four-yard line. A quick shove into the endzone by Kam Potter gave Crooksville their first damage on the scoreboard of the night—and this foreshadowed the upcoming offensive prowess that Crooksville held.
Ceramics had no intention of ending the scoring early on, as a fourth-down punt return by the Redskins was caught by Kyle Lane, and he sent it up the home sideline to score another touchdown for Crooksville. An unsuccessful two-point attempt kept the score at 13-0 Crooksville with nine minutes left in the first quarter.
This quarter was not over for the Ceramics in any way, as a short pass from Brayson Hill at the 48-yard line to Kyle Lane allowed Lane to begin his charge, shifting through the Coshocton defense to bring it to the house. After the extra point attempt was successful, the score jumped up to 20-0 with 2:26 left in the first.
Coshocton struggled offensively in the first quarter, as multiple incomplete passes ended the first quarter with the Ceramics on top with 20 unanswered points.
The Ceramics opened the second quarter with a misplayed punt return by the Redskins, which landed into Drew Dorsey’s hands. This opportunity was answered quickly by Brayson Hill, as he trudged through the tackles of Coshocton’s defense to score a 23-yard touchdown to keep the score rising 27-0 with 8 minutes left.
This Crooksville squad had more left in them in this first half, as a leaping Brayson Hill snagged a Coshocton pass, and ran an astounding 85 yards all the way to the house for another highlight-reel Ceramics touchdown to move the score to 34-0 with just under five minutes left in the second quarter.
Coshocton’s offense drove up the field at the end of the half, but quarterback JJ Herman’s incomplete passes ended the momentum for the Redskins, ending the half with Crooksville leading 34-0.
The third quarter had virtually no difference for the Crooksville offense—besides the length of the quarter. Brayson Hill did what he had done many times in this match, and found an open pocket to sneak through the Coshocton defense to lead himself into the Ceramics’ end zone to rise the score—once again—to 40-0. The running clock paid an important factor in the second half of tonight’s game, as the Redskins could not make a counter in time during the third quarter.
With ten minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Redskins’ Kash Murphy received a handoff and sailed through the sea of Crooksville defense to bring the Redskins their only scoring of the night to make it 40-7
Crooksville took advantage of the running clock as sophomore Brody Cottrell drove in a touchdown for the Ceramics to bring the score to 46-7 with 5 minutes left.
The strategic defensive efforts by Crooksville held the Redskins to just one touchdown, and the running clock brought the match to an end with a final score of 46-7.
The Redskins fall to 1-7 on the season, dropping to 0-4 in the MVL-Small. The winning Crooksville Ceramics’ record boosts to 5-3 overall, improving to 2-1 in the MVL-Small. The Ceramics look forward to next week’s match as they take on the undefeated New Lexington (8-0, 4-0) Panthers, while the Redskins move on to their next matchup at home against the West Muskingum Tornados (3-5, 1-2).
