Eastern in driver’s seat of SOC after win over Notre Dame

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WOUB) – The Eastern Eagles (8-0) traveled to face off with the Notre Dame Titans (7-1) and came away with a 42-7 win to continue their undefeated season.
Both teams came into tonight undefeated on the season, and the winner of this game would find themselves in the driver’s seat of the SOC.
Things started strong for Eastern, who were able to get an early interception and claim control, but it was short lived after the Titans took the ball back the other way.
After some Eagle defense shut the Titan drive down, they got the ball back and marched down the field. Billy Shannon was able to punch it in from one yard out, getting the Eagles on the board just before the end of the first quarter.
Things continued to go the Eagle’s way in the second quarter, where Carson Peters was able to catch a high pass and get into the endzone.
This touchdown was the beginning of a run for Eastern, who got another one just a few minutes later off a Eric Manley Jr. pass to Boston Webb, expanding the lead to 21, and Manley Jr. Held onto the ball again just over a minute later and got yet another touchdown for his Eagles.
Just before halftime, Eastern was able to get just one more touchdown as the clock wound down. They kicked an extra point with no time on the clock and headed into the locker room up 35-0.
Notre Dame struggled to get going in the first half, and things continued to go Eastern’s way to start the second half, with another 11-yard rushing touchdown from Jack Montgomery.
Eventually, the Titans got going. Ethan Kingrey returned to the QB position for the first time since week 1, where he was injured against Fairfield Christian Academy.
Kingrey was able to take the ball from two yards out, getting into the endzone by himself and helping Notre Dame get on the board.
Unfortunately, Notre Dame’s efforts were too little too late. The clock wound down and Eastern remained on top, claiming the win and the lead in the conference.
Eastern only has South Gallia and Green left on their regular season schedule, while Notre Dame can look to bounce back against Symmes Valley and East in the coming weeks.
