Tree Talk, How the Urban Tree Canopy is Critical to Athens’ Wellbeing

October 20, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

Athens Community Tree Talk

A conversation about the health of our urban forest

Featured Speakers

Ann Bonner- Regional Urban Forester, ODNR

Mary Reed, Organizer, Athens Arbor Day Committee

Dr. Glenn Matlack-Professor of Environmental and Plant Biology, Ohio University

Presenters will discuss Urban forest Care Strategies, Historical canopy photos, current work in Athens and neighboring communities.

Our tree canopy is more important than ever. Trees provide ecological, economic and social services to our community. Habitat, cooling, shade and enjoyment are a few of the many benefits.  Trees are a critical component of the health of our community. Yet we continue to loose our tree canopy while the city proposes to deregulate the capacity of the Athens Shade Tree Commission to an advisory body.

Join this evening of information and learn about the trees around us in our community.
