Jessica Mount served as the Nelsonville Police Department and Mayor’s Court secretary from November 2021 to December 2022. The Auditor of State’s Special Investigations Unit received a complaint in April 2023 alleging that Mount stole city funds. SIU found that $5,000 of funds were not deposited into a city bank account.

The charges Mount pled to last week were theft in office, a felony, and two misdemeanors for soliciting improper compensation and dereliction of duty.

This isn’t the first time Mount has committed a crime while in office. In March 2023, she pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors for unauthorized use of a law enforcement database. She was forced to pay $600 to the Athens County Empowerment Diversion Program.

Mount will serve five years of community control supervision and will pay over $11,000 in restitution.
