Dewine Urges School To Check Safety After Recent Shooting
< < Back to dewine-urges-school-check-safety-after-recent-shootingOhio Attorney General Mike DeWine is urging schools to ensure their floor plans and safety plans are up to date in the wake of a high school shooting that killed three students.
State law requires schools to file those plans with the attorney general's criminal investigation division and update the plans at least every three years, making them accessible to law enforcement. DeWine says 336 of Ohio's 4,356 school facilities, or about 8 percent, have not properly filed plans.
He says students at Chardon High School carried out their safety plan Monday when a gunman opened fire. DeWine says officials hope to avoid such situations but need to be as prepared as possible to respond.
Charges were filed Thursday in juvenile court against the 17-year-old Chardon suspect, T.J. Lane.
