Tomcats fall to Alexander in cross-conference matchup.

GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) – The Trimble Tomcats hosted the Alexander Spartans on Tuesday night, looking to beat their cross-conference competitor. After both teams put up a competitive game, the Spartans won 69-58.
Trimble began the game with a pass to Brady Jajczyk, who knocked down the three-pointer immediately, lighting the game on fire with momentum that would continue throughout the quarter. The Tomcats would not only utilize their own offensive power throughout this quarter, but also capitalize on Alexander’s misses well, with Luke Orsborne completing every free throw he shot for a total of three points. Trimble led at the end of the first 17-10, and things were looking up Tomcats for certain.
Alexander looked at their performance in the first quarter and brought it to the second, causing issues for the Tomcats. They found luck in making sure the ball was in the hands of Jace Cooper and Noah Graves, who got a whopping nine rebounds and 49 points combined throughout the game. It’d prove to overwhelm the Trimble boys, but there was still hope on the horizon with a 33-25 Alexander lead going into halftime.
Coming into the third, both teams tried their best to really bring it, with Alexander keeping a hold on their lead. While Jajczyk completed four of six shots he made, Jace Cooper shot two three pointers and continued to run down Trimble on both offense and defense. With both teams getting worn down after an extremely physical game, the Alexander boys were leading 47-40.
With the game coming to a close, the Trimble boys were unable to bring it back; both sides of their game were too worn down to be able to compete with Alexander. After a hard fight, Alexander won 69-58.
The Trimble boys are now 5-12 and will try to better their record against Eastern on Friday.
The Alexander boys’ squad’s record is 4-12 and will host Meigs on Jan. 23.
