RACINE, Ohio (WOUB) –The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers (9-5, 6-2) traveled to Racine to take on the Southern High School Lady Tornadoes (7-11, 0-8) as they looked to get their first conference win of the year. Federal Hocking would shoot the lights out and cruise to a 72-50 win on the road.

The game started off in the Lady Tornadoes favor as they got out to an early 11-3 lead as their zone defense was stifling the Lady Lancers offense. But Federal Hocking would eventually pick up momentum ending the first quarter only down three as Southern would lead 17-14. Coach Amos Cottrill would comment on the slow start,

“We have got to come ready to play, we can’t overlook anybody, that was the conversation before the game started.”

The Lady Lancers would go on a 7-0 run to start the quarter highlighted by Rorie Tabler knocking down shots to put her team up four. The Lancers would keep this momentum going to round out the half led by stellar shooting with the score 39-23 to end the half.

Federal Hocking would start the second half hot, continuing their shooting streak as well as causing the Lady Tornadoes to cough up the ball multiple times. Southern would also start landing their shots again as the third quarter would end 59-37 with Southern trying to mount a comeback.

Unfortunately for the Lady Tornadoes, it would be too out of reach. Federal Hocking would pull most of their starters but would still outlast Southern 72-50 in a statement road win to move to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Southern Lady Tornadoes would fall to 7-11 and 0-8 in conference play.

Federal Hocking will face off against Alexander at home on January 24th at 11:00 a.m.

Southern will travel to Belpre on January 29th to face off against the Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m.
