McARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) — The Vinton County Vikings faced off against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes for the second time this season at home. The Buckeyes won the first matchup against the Vikings, and they would defeat the Vikings again tonight by a final score of 73-48.
To start this game off, the scoring was back and forth with both teams trading baskets. The Buckeyes got off to a hot start with shooting and once the Vikings missed some shots they took a big lead. Cam Sullivan was able to get to the basket at will and scored a lot of the Buckeyes early points.
Nelsonville-York kept expanding their lead as Vinton County continued struggling to make shots. The Vikings got some good shots off, but most of them could not fall in the basket. The Buckeyes defense did a nice job of forcing Vinton County to take a lot of long shots.
Gavin Lavy and Sullivan had a great connection with each other in the first half, with Lavy making plenty of assists down low to Sullivan for baskets. Sullivan already had 16 points at halftime.
After halftime, the Buckeyes kept holding on to their big lead. Vinton County continued struggling to make shots, and had a hard time stopping the Buckeyes on the defensive end.
Nelsonville-York would not stop playing with great energy throughout the game, and it helped them keep the Vikings out of rhythm.
Nelsonville-York will improve to a record of 11-8 while Vinton County will fall to a record of 7-10.
Next, the Buckeyes will face Waterford at home, and the Vikings will go on the road to play at Washington Court House.
