Union Votes Not To Strike At Hocking
< < Back to union-votes-not-strike-hockingThere will be no strike at Hocking College, at least not now.
The possibility of a strike loomed larger after the Support Staff Union and college officials met Saturday and did not resolve their differences.
Union spokesman Will Alder says management rejected a new contract offer by the union.
Alder says Hocking College representatives "indicated that they were unwilling to move on their last offer."
The college released this statement: "The college's final contract offer was the result of lengthy negotiations and compromise on all issues and fairly balanced respect for its employees with the responsible use of its limited resources"
The union membership met Sunday afternoon to vote whether to strike and Alder says the decision was "to not strike at this time."
The union already had notified the college they might strike and could legally have walked off the job at midnight.
Alder did not release the strike vote tally.
He says the next move is up to the college which, he says, will probably implement the terms of it's last contract offer.
There are approximately 80 housekeeping, maintenance, clerical and other employees in the bargaining unit.
