TVC-Ohio Standings: Meigs boys gets tie breaker over Wellston, Athens girls undefeated after regular-season

TVC-Ohio Boys’ Standings
1. Meigs Marauders | 13-8 (Conf. 9-2)

The Marauders had two games on the schedule this week, the first a non-conference test against Jackson and wrapped up the week at home against River Valley.
The Ironmen took down the Marauders 59-42. Despite the loss, Carson Davis had 20 points and Colben Beucler added in 10. No doubt this was one of the best opponents the Marauders have faced all season.
Friday night’s contest would go in Meigs favor, winning 77 to 60. Owen Tracy dominated in this contest, scoring 29 points and eight rebounds. He was also extremely efficient from the field, shooting 10/16. Davis also added in 24 and 10 boards, while Beucler finished with 15. A huge performance from the big three of the Marauders.
The conference clinching scenarios are now pretty simple for Meigs. If they win their lone game against Nelsonville-York next week, they clinch a share. If Wellston loses, they’ll get the conference outright.
2. Wellston Golden Rockets |14-4 (Conf.8-2)

Wellston continued their march to their first TVC-Ohio title since 2003 this week. The Golden Rockets knocked off Alexander 65-43 and Vinton County 69-62. Between those two games, the Golden Rockets narrowly escaped Jackson County rival, Oak Hill, with a 48-45 win. Those wins meant the Golden Rockets clinched their best season since at least the 2006-2007 season.
Although Wellston’s fans may be looking forward to the Golden Rockets’ tournament matchup with Northwest, the Golden Rockets still have some important basketball to play next week. Wellston can clinch at least a share of the TVC-Ohio title if they win their two remaining conference games. Those games are a home game against Athens on Tuesday and a game at Nelsonville-York on Friday. Wellston will also play Ross County Christian on Thursday.
3. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 11-9 (Conf. 6-4)

Nelsonville-York played just one game last week – resulting in a 73-69 loss to TVC-Hocking opponent Waterford, in a game where Buckeye junior Cam Sullivan had a 26-point double-double. At one point in the fourth quarter, they trailed 11, but their efforts were just short of a full comeback.
This means no change in conference record for Nelsonville-York, and they remain in the third place slot.
Moving to next week, the Buckeyes have a tough slate. Meigs on Tuesday, and Wellston on Friday. These TVC-Ohio games will wrap up their regular season, and it’ll be an opportunity for them to pick up a couple more league wins before tournament play begins.
4. Vinton County Vikings |7-13(Conf. 6-5)

It was a rough week for the Vinton County Vikings, who dropped all three of their games played. With two out of conference losses to Washington Courthouse and McClain, their sights were ultimately set on the Wellston Golden Rockets.
The Vikings were looking to play spoiler to the Golden Rockets, who are on track for a historic season. Wellston would take the lead early and hold onto it until late in the fourth quarter. Josh Montgomery was the Vikings’ leading scorer with 24 points, but that ultimately was no match for Wes Briggs, who led the Golden Rockets with 33 points in their 69-62 victory.
VC has two big games this week to help get them back on track before they start tournament play. The Vikings will play their remaining games at home this week, starting Tuesday against Jackson and finishing off the regular season Thursday against conference opponent River Valley.
T5. River Valley Raiders | 8-13 (Conf. 4-7)

Although River Valley won a game this week, the Raiders struggled in the games that counted in the RPI standings. River Valley began their week with a 76-54 win over Sugar Creek Christian Academy. However, that game did not count toward the Raiders’ RPI because Sugar Creek Christian is not an OHSAA member. After that game, River Valley struggled. The Raiders lost a close game to Athens 44-41, then they lost 77-60 to Meigs.
Those losses put the Raiders at the bottom of the Division IV RPI standings, which means the Raiders will play fourth-seeded Waverly in the first round of the tournament. Before that game, the Raiders will try to get into playoff form against Vinton County on Thursday.
T5. Athens Bulldogs | 7-14 (Conf. 4-7)

Athens won two out of three of their games this past week, winning both of their conference matchups and dropping their non-conference game against Logan. The Chieftains defeated the Bulldogs 62-35 on their senior night, fueled by Hudson Edwards and Owen Hughes. Both submitted great performances, finishing the night with 23 and 22 points respectively.
Athens defeated River Valley and Alexander back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, adding two conference wins and two away wins, something the team has struggled with this season (0-6 before the win against the Raiders).
The Bulldogs will play at Wellston on Tuesday in their regular season finale.
7. Alexander Spartans | 4-18(Conf. 1-11)

The Alexander Spartans end their season in last place in the TVC-Ohio after their loss to the Athens Bulldogs. The game was a back-and-forth barnburner with their rival, Athens, but some clutch free throws sealed the game 58-51. The Spartans will now focus on tournament play as they don’t have makeup games scheduled.
TVC-Ohio Girls’ Standings
1. Athens Bulldogs |19-3 (Conf. 12-0)

The Lady Bulldogs won all three of their conference games this week, beating Meigs, Vinton County, and River Valley by a differential of 192-94.
Athens secured the title by defeating Vinton County 70-33, marking their biggest scoring output of the season.
Ella Chapman and Bristol Stump each scored 17 points, contributing to the Bulldogs’ total of 43 points in the second half.
Athens has now secured three consecutive TVC-Ohio conference titles, a notable achievement that deserves more recognition.
First-year Athens Head Coach Jeff Skinner built on the momentum established by former Head Coach Phil Koska. His team performed even better than in previous years, finishing undefeated in the conference, while those two teams each dropped one league game.
The Bulldogs play Miami Trace in the first round of the playoffs on Monday, and a win against the Panthers will send them to Thornville to face the second seed in their playoff bracket, Sheridan.
2. Vinton County Vikings |13-8 (Conf. 8-3)

The Vinton County Lady Vikings wrapped up regular season play this week with two important games. Their first game of the week was against the number two ranked team in their bracket; the Logan Elm Braves. It was a close matchup between the two teams, with the result of the game coming down to the last minute of play. Senior Kylee Smith would tie the game for the Vikings, but a late foul and made free throws from Gillian Savage would seal the 68-66 victory for Logan Elm.
Their final game of the regular season would be played against the Athens Bulldogs, who were undefeated in conference play. The Lady Vikes were looking for an upset win against the Athens squad but were unable to match the Bulldogs’ strength. VC lost their final conference game of the season 70-33.
Vinton County will head to Gallia Academy tomorrow night for their first playoff game of the season. The Vikings will look for revenge against a team that they lost to earlier in the year, 44-39.
3. Alexander Spartans |15-7 (Conf. 8-4)

The Alexander Spartans are ready for the playoff season! The Spartans wrapped up their regular season this past week with two impressive TVC-Ohio victories. Alexander traveled to take on the Wellston Golden Rockets and earned a dominant 55-26 win.
They carried that momentum into their next matchup just two days later against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. The Spartans hosted the Buckeyes on Senior Night, honoring their three seniors—Macie Hubbard, Kaylee Hudnall, and Karah Allison. The trio helped lead Alexander to a strong 61-36 victory in the final regular-season game.
Alexander will open a tournament play this Wednesday at home against the Huntington Huntsmen.
4. River Valley Raiders | 10-10 (Conf. 6-5)

River Valley had a rough end to their season, losing both of their games this week. The Raiders dropped a 62-34 game to Eastern and a 58-42 decision to Athens.
River Valley will look to reset and win their first playoff game. The Raiders will try for the upset against Wheelersburg on Wednesday.
5. Nelsonville-YorkBuckeyes | 6-16 (Conf. 5-7)

A split in TVC-Ohio games for the Lady Buckeyes came against Alexander and Wellston this week. They dropped the game to Alexander on Wednesday, and in a quick turnaround, they redeemed themselves at home against Wellston on Thursday.
Thursday also marked the final home game for Head Coach Mark Truax, who spent nine seasons in two stints as Nelsonville-York’s coach. The Lady Buckeyes won two TVC-Ohio crowns in his tenure, and he was celebrated by the Buckeye faithful before the game.
Nelsonville-York now shifts their focus to next week’s tournament matchup at North Adams (17-5), in what could be the end of Coach Truax’s tenure with the Lady Buckeyes.
6. MeigsMarauders | 2-19 (Conf. 2-10)

Originally, the Lady Marauders had three games on the schedule this week, but unfortunately their game against Eastern on Thursday got canceled. That left them with Athens on Monday and Jackson on Wednesday.
Both games didn’t go the Lady Marauders way this week, as they fell to Athens 64-19 and Jackson 47-31. Despite the loss to Jackson, Freshman Ella Vaughn led the way with 17 points and had a very good night overall for her team.
The Lady Marauders next game is a playoff contest. They’ll play host to fellow conference foe Wellston on Monday. So far this season, Meigs have beaten the Golden Rockets twice.
7. Wellston Golden Rockets |2-19 (Conf. 0-12)

Although Wellston won only one game this week, that win was important because it was Wellston’s first win of the season against an OHSAA team. The Golden Rockets began their week with a 55-26 loss to Alexander and ended it with a 61-16 loss to Nelsonville-York. Between those two games, Wellston defeated Western 46-11. That win was the Golden Rockets’ second of the season and their first against an OHSAA-sanctioned team.
Wellston will try to get their third win of the season in the tournament when they play Meigs on Monday.
