Eastern wins TVC-Hocking title in a nail bitter against Southern

RACINE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Eastern Eagles won their first TVC- Hocking title since 2014, after the Eagles win against their Meigs County rival, Southern. Eastern shares the crown, defeating state champion Waterford, and a state championship has to be on the minds of the Eagles. The last time they won a TVC title, that team ended up winning a state title. Eastern won with a final score, 41-38.
This game in Racine was a defensive showing, as the Eagles and Tornadoes played tough and aggressive basketball throughout. The Eagles lead though out the game, never letting the Tornadoes take command.
The Eagles and Tornadoes matched up earlier this season, however that game ended much differently as the Eagles won 67-40. This game was much closer, after the game Eastern head coach Hayden Plummer, said he credited the closer game to all of the recent snow days, not allowing consistent games and practices.
Fackler led the Eagles with a total of 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Braelyn Simpson was second for Eastern with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. But also added a block and four steals.
For the Tornadoes, all of their field goals were scored by the starters. Jaylynn Hupp scored the most, with 14 points, scoring six more than the second place scorer.
The Tornadoes will next play White Oak in the first round of the OHSAA DVII playoffs. If the Tornadoes win, they will face the Eagles again. Eastern and Southern playing three times a year is nothing new to most of these girls. As it happened earlier this year during the Volleyball season.
Eastern still has one more regular season game, against Parkersburg South on Wednesday. A game that was added late to make up for earlier cancelations.
