Winchester Eastern moves onto next round in playoffs thanks to dominant performance

WAVERLY, Ohio (WOUB) – The semi-final for District five, Southeast-two region saw the Alexander Lady Spartans and the Winchester Eastern Lady Warriors clash in this matchup. The Lady Warriors would stay dominant from the tip-off to the final buzzer to take this one 62-40 and move on to the district final of the OHSAA playoffs.
Eastern started with their foot on the gas pedal, leaving Alexander in the dust. At the end of the first 8 minutes of action, 15-5. Sophie Yule was the leader for the Lady Warriors this quarter, scoring seven of their 15 points.
And it would be a similar script for the second quarter as well. Eastern would score 18 points, while only letting up 10. At halftime, the Lady Warriors had a 33-15 lead over the Lady Spartans. This time, we saw Bentley Burns step up for Eastern, as she would put eight points through the basket.
We would then see both teams’ defenses step up in these eight minutes of play. With the Lady Warriors’ early dominance in this game, they would keep their lead. Heading into the last quarter, Eastern would lead 43-24.
The Lady Warriors would continue their dominance to try to put this game away. Late in the quarter, we saw Shyla Mignerey put up 10 points. When the final buzzer rang, Eastern would take this matchup 62-40. Eastern will now move on to the district final of the OHSAA playoffs and continue its run further.
Lily Ryder for the Alexander Lady Spartans would lead the team with a 15-point performance, with Kayden Bean closely behind her with 12 points. For the Winchester Eastern Lady Warriors, Yule would lead the way with 18 points, with Burns having 15 points, and third for the Lady Warriors would be Mignerey with 12 points.
Winchester Eastern will play the three-seeded Piketon Redstreaks (18-5, 12-2) on Saturday, February 28. While Alexander’s season comes to an end, with a final record of (16-9, 8-4).
