Ohio University Symphony Orchestra patriotic concert in Ironton
The Ohio University Symphony Orchestra, which is the flagship orchestra of Ohio University and Athens, OH, will perform a free concert of music written by some of America’s greatest and most famous orchestral composers with themes of Americana and patriotism on Sunday, March 29 at 3 pm in the Ironton High School auditorium. The Lawrence County America 250 committee and the Ironton Council for the Arts are jointly sponsoring their performance which is not part of the Ironton Council for the Arts 2025-26 season subscription ticket package. The orchestra is directed by Dr. Jose Rocha, who is also Director of Orchestral Activities in the Ohio University School of Music.
Works to be performed include four Aaron Copland standards: An Outdoor Overture, Variations on a Shaker Melody from his ballet Appalachian Spring, and Hoe Down and Buckaroo Holiday from his ballet Rodeo. Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, and July 4th favorites Armed Forces Salute, America the Beautiful, and the 1812 Overture finale will also be performed.
