Southeast Ohio Educators Offered Wildlife Workshop
< < Back to southeast-ohio-educators-offered-wildlife-workshopTeachers wanting to brush up on their conservation and environmental education will have a chance later this month thanks to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
The agency will hold a free wildlife workshop, called Project Wild, on April 14 in Athens for both formal and informal educators.
Lindsay Rist, a Wildlife Communications Specialist with the Division of Wildlife, says they want to make it easy for educators to teach the information.
"This is a great way to get conservation education into the schools so we just want to give educators the tools that they need that they might not already have to be able to do that with the students," said Rist.
The program is a hands-on experience and the Division of Wildlife is willing to share their props with educators.
"We don't just send you home with the books and a little bit of information," Rist explained. "We've got things at our office and other offices around the state that are available for educators to borrow as some support for some of these activities to be able to get some of this stuff into the classroom and into some of these groups."
Rist says the goal is to teach young people how to think about wildlife, not what to think.
"People who are interested in the environment and conservation, a lot of them are very passionate people, and everyone kind of has their own ideas about things so its important to get those critical thinking skills and look at all sides of the issue so people are able to form their own opinions," said Rist.
If you're interested in signing up for the workshop, you can call the Division of Wildlife at 740-589-9930.
