Perry County Commissioner Replacement Begins New Term
< < Back to perry-county-commissioner-replacement-begins-new-termIt's the first day on the job for the newest Perry County Commissioner, Tim Green.
"It's been a very long, hectic day," he said, "but it was enjoyable. It's a learning experience."
Green is the replacement for former commissioner Lonnie Wood, who resigned earlier this month.
He said he's had few problems with the transition because he worked at the board of elections next door for 18 years.
He said that attracting more tourists to Perry County is one project he'd like to tackle during his new term.
"You have your Amish Country up there that their thing is farming and good food and furniture, and we are working to create ours whether it be historical sites or some sort of physical recreation," he said.
Green said he would also like to look into building a new jail and sheriff's office for the county.
His main goal, he said, is to take care of the taxpayers and spend their money wisely.
The unexpired term goes through the end of 2014, but a Republican challenger could snatch the position at the end of this year.
The former commissioner pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of assault and unlawful restraint, after he was accused of restraining, kissing and groping a county employee against her wishes in October 2010.
He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, $1250 in fines and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service within 90 days.
As part of Wood's plea agreement, he agreed not to hold or seek a position in public office for 10 years.
