Softball: Bobcats Split A Pair Of Games At Chippewas

Ohio softball traveled to Central Michigan Friday and split a doubleheader against the Chippewas. Ohio took the first game by a final score of 10-6, but fell in the second game 3-1.
Bobcat Sophomore Raven King continued her hot hitting with a 3-6 outing from the plate. King drilled two home runs, giving her five homers in her last four games.
Game one saw the two teams tied 4-4 entering the fifth. Central allowed Ohio two baserunners from errors, and King capitalized with her first home run of the day, a three-run shot to center field. King followed up with another three-run shot in her next at bat to put Ohio up 10-4. The sophomore now has 11 home runs this season.
Bobcat starter Lauren McClary (14-14) allowed two runs in the seventh, but held on to secure her 12th complete game of the season and give Ohio the victory.
Ohio had to claw back in game one after the Chippewas plated three runs in the bottom of the first. Central starter Chelsea Sundberg retired Ohio’s first eight batters of the contest before Alyssa Wolfe smacked a single to left field. Two batters later, Brooke Morgart hit a single to right and brought home two Bobcats. Ohio tied the score 4-4 with two runs in the top of the fourth. It was King’s time after that, and her two bombs were all Ohio needed to finish off game one.
Game two was a different story. The two starting pitchers dueled back and forth, limiting scoring opportunities for their opposition.
Central broke through against Kaylin Clarke (5-6) in the bottom half of the fourth inning with one run off of an Ohio error. The Chippewas scored two more runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead and knock Clarke from the game.
Ohio made it interesting down 3-1 in the seventh and final inning. Chelsea Hortman drilled one to left field, pulling it just a few feet foul. With one runner on base, Hortman’s blast would have tied the game.
Central’s Kara Dornbos (10-14) picked up the win for the Chippewas.
Ohio will travel to Eastern Michigan for a two-game series with another MAC-West foe beginning Saturday.
