Unioto eyes fourth straight SVC title entering 2026 season

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WOUB)– As the season quickly approaches, the Unioto Shermans are expecting big things after winning their third SVC Title in a row.
The Shermans found success at the end of their perfect season in the post-season against the East Tigers, but Unioto’s season would come to a close after a 47-14 loss against New Lexington. This off-season Head Coach Matt Hoops expects his team to carry over their good habits from last season.
“We’ve tried to take another step each season,” said Hoops. “The habits and the things that they did kind of to take that step, we’re just building off of to try to take another step to have some playoff success.”
With 18 seniors graduating last year this team has gotten significantly younger which poses some challenges. Senior corner and wide receiver Levi Beam is confident that the work they’ve been putting in this off season will show on the field.
“Our defense is really fast this year,” said Beam. “We’re not as big as previous years, but definitely in the back half I think we’re gonna be really good. I think we’ll get a lot of picks and broken up passes.”
Coach Hoops expects the team to play with a chip on their shoulder. He expects them to play fast and aggressive to remain on top of the conference. The Shermans are buying into this mentality and are excited to showcase their off-season work on the field.
With strong starters, talent and rising expectations this season Unioto has a good chance at dominating the division again. The Shermans open up the season against non-conference opponent Jackson.
