Eastern steamrolls local rival on home turf

REEDSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — Eastern dominated their local rivals Minford, finishing the game with a final score of 31-6, giving Minford their second win of the season and boosting the team’s morale for next week’s matchup at Eastern.
Both teams were sweating before they even reached the field, with temperatures upwards of 85 degrees Fahrenheit feeling like 91 on the field. Both teams felt the heat. Eastern kicked off the game, quickly capitalizing with a 20-yard touchdown by Sophomore Eli Shaffer within the first few minutes of the quarter.
Eastern quickly recovered the ball from Milford’s quarterback Mason Bailey, as the ball was pulled from his hands by Sophomore Chevy Knowles. In the following play, Eli Shaffer broke through Milford’s defense with multiple tackles, rushing 47 yards into the end zone for the second touchdown of the quarter, making the score 14-0 with seven minutes left in the first. Minutes later, Eastern’s Quarterback Brydn Davis ran the final yards, resulting in the third touchdown and shutting out Minford 21-0.
Minford received the ball at the beginning of the quarter, quickly losing it as Eastern put up a relentless offense, forcing Minford to fumble the ball again and again throughout the beginning of the second quarter. After the second fumble, Eastern ended the play with the ball 25 yards from the end zone, resulting in Eastern earning a field goal, leaving the score 24-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half started out slow, with the first action from Shaffer as he took it 60 yards to make the score 31-0 at the end of the third. At the start of the fourth, Menford finally put points on the board, scoring the final touchdown and making the final score 31-6.
