West Virginia’s Unemployment Rate Rises To 7.3%

WorkForce West Virginia said Tuesday the number of unemployed residents rose 1,900 in May to 55,600.
Job declines of 1,400 in mining and logging and 400 in manufacturing offset a gain of 800 in construction.
Within the service-providing sector, among the job declines were 700 in trade, transportation and utilities, 400 in professional and business services, and 300 in leisure and hospitality.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.9 percent, compared with 6.7 percent in April. Nationally, the unemployment rate rose slightly to 8.2 percent.
