Volleyball: Ohio Captures Second Straight-Set Win Friday Over Belmont
< < Back to volleyball-ohio-captures-second-straight-set-win-friday-over-belmontAfter winning a back-and-forth first set, the Ohio Bobcats would go on to defeat the Belmont Bruins in three sets by a score of 25-20, 25-11, and 25-18.
“I thought we finished, which was great instead of them giving it to us,” Head Coach Ryan Theis.
The first set would prove to be a tough, grind-it-out set for Ohio. The Bruins and the Bobcats went back and forth until the score was 16-15 Ohio. Kelly Lamberti then rallied off 3 straight service points. The Bruins would make a comeback and bring the Bobcats lead within one point at 21-20, but Ohio a 4-0 run gave Ohio the set.
In the second set, the Bobcats would start by going on on a 7-2 run. The Bruins would then rally back to make it a three-point game at 7-4, but that was as close as they would come in the second set. Ohio dominated the rest of set, finishing on an 18-7 run to take a 2-0 set lead.
Coach Theis commented on the Bobcats’ ability to rally off service points saying, “In the second set, I thought we did a really good job keeping pressure on them from the service line.”
The third set began somewhat like the first set as both teams traded points to a 7-7 tie. Ohio then put together a run to take what seemed like an insurmountable lead at 17-11, but it was not over yet. The Bruins brought the Bobcats’ lead to just three points at 19-16, but the rest of this set and the game was history. Ohio would go on to win the set 25-18 after on a 6-2 run.
This win makes Ohio 2-0 in the Bobcat Volleyball Invitational, after defeating Niagara earlier in the day and sets up a championship match against the Bobcats of Montana State at 4 P.M. at the Convocation Center. Montana State swept the Belmont Bruins and rallied back against Niagara in its second matchup after being down two sets to none.
“They showed great character”, Coach Theis said in relation to Montana State’s comeback. “They will give us a handful tomorrow.”
